Only members are eligible for coverage. Once coverage is obtained, membership status is irrelevant. This is in large part because A) they would have initially met the medical requirements for coverage and B) TPAs are generally not advised when someone’s membership terminates and therefore administering for only active members would be difficult if not impossible. Therefore, regardless of membership status, once coverage is obtained, coverage can continue as long as the other eligibility requirements are met (i.e. age, timely premium payments, etc.)
