- The dismemberment benefit always includes benefits for loss of limb. Some plans also have benefits for loss of hearing, speech, or sight. Other plans include benefits for loss of use and/or paralysis. Loss of the thumb and index finger of the same hand is usually covered. Loss of toes is not usually covered, although we do have at least one plan that includes this benefit.
- Some plans only cover death (not dismemberment). These plans will be listed as Accidental Death or AD on the insured record. For simplicity, this manual refers to both AD and AD&D as AD&D.
