FIRST -- BEWARE of taking shortcuts -- PLEASE refer to the group policy number (AGP-5942 and AGP-5925 are examples) and check details related to those group policies.
Statements that start off "All Corporate Plans" or "All Retail Plans" or "All Prime Plans" or "All Select Plans" are not always correct because there are EXCEPTIONS to the rules. But, sometimes there are no exceptions and if you see "All ______ Plans" below, that is the case.
All plans offered through Corporate clients or employer groups have flat rates that do not increase with age. Check the Corporate Group Rates Manual (formerly known as Old OEP manual) in the Tricare shortcuts for more details about rates.
There are several different plans offered through Corporate clients, but each Corporate Client offers only one plan that has been assigned to that Corporate client. Please be sure you understand which plan the Corporate client offers when you are talking to a customer. Common plans offered through Corporate clients are AGP-5942, AGP-5943 and AGP-5944. Most, but not all plans offered through Retail channels have rates that increase in 5-year age bands. The rate increase occurs on the first premium due date on or following the attainment of the qualifying age (ages ending in 5 or 0). AGP-5942 is sometimes offered through Retail channels and that group policy has rates that do NOT increase in 5-year age bands, and we do not need to track the underlying TRICARE Plan Type (Select, Prime or TRR).
Child rates do not increase with age.
TRICARE Plan Types
TRICARE has different plan types -- Prime, Select, TRICARE Retired Reserve (TRR), TRICARE Young Adult (TYA), Continued Health Care Benefit Program (CHCBP), Active Duty Family Member (ADFM), and TRICARE Reserve Select (TRS).
Prime and Select are by far the most common TRICARE Plan Types. We have different Retail and Corporate Supplement plans that cover Prime and Select.
Some Prime plans have Supplement deductibles, but most do not
Most Select plans have Supplement deductibles, but some do not .
Prime and Select are covered under the same group policy numbers such as AGP-5925, AGP-5942, AGP-5943 and AGP-5944. Be sure you check the plan details so you can communicate accurately with the customer about rates and deductibles. TRR, TYA, CHCBP can also fall under these plans but they are not as common.
CHAMPVA is another common plan that our customers are covered under, although it is not a TRICARE Plan. It is for family members of disabled veterans.
ADFM and TRS are both covered under a different plan, AGP-5926. Rates and benefits under AGP-5926 differ for ADFM vs TRS. Know what TRICARE plan the customer has and check the details for the plan.
The AGP-5925 policy is offered through Retail channels and it covers Prime, Select and TRICARE Retired Reserve (TRR)TRICARE plans. However, the rates are different depending on whether the insured is covered under Prime (lower) or Select/TRR (higher). It is important that the insured is correctly identified in Inspro as Prime or Select or TRR so that rates are properly applied and claims paid correctly. TYA and CHCBP can also fall under these plans, but they are not very common.
Plans offered through Corporate clients can cover insureds whether they have Prime, Select or TRR. The rates are the same regardless of the TRICARE Plan. However, people covered under Active Duty Family Member, TRICARE Reserve Select or CHAMPVA cannot be covered under plans offered through corporate clients.
VFW has it's own plans for Prime, Select, ADFM, TRS and CHAMPVA. Be sure to check the details for VFW plans if you are talking to a VFW customer. Group policy numbers for VFW are AGP-5933, AGP-5934, and AGP-5935.
RATES
Rate tables can be viewed in Emerge. Click on the “Calc Premium” button found on the Coverage and PlanSpec Tab in Emerge. Then click on the square aqua button next to the “Add to Total” button. The table on the left will show and Index column (age) and a Value column (rate). See this snapshot.
If you need to know the specifics of a Retail or Corporate rate table, please use the NEW Corporate Group Rates Manual (Old OEP Manual) located in your Tricare Shortcuts.
All rates are subject to change over time. Rate increases are driven by the rising cost of medical care and the ratio of benefits paid to premiums collected for the our insureds as a whole. All rate changes are filed with each applicable state’s Department of Insurance. We must notify insureds of upcoming rate changes within 30-45 days of the change (some state laws give us 30 days and other states give us 45 days). For Corporate clients, we notify the client, and then the client notifies the insureds. These overall rate increases are implemented on the first premium due date on or following the effective date of the change.

Non-VFW Retail insureds receive a rate discount during their first twelve months of coverage. There are no other discounts available. The first-year discount does not apply to insureds who live in OH, NY, or KY.
