Employees and spouses who carried an AD benefit with the employer group Term Life plan may elect an AD rider upon porting. This option must be elected at the time of Port enrollment. It cannot be added at a later date. Typically, the applicant must be under age 70 to elect the AD option. The AD benefit amount must MATCH the amount of Life coverage ported, regardless of the amount of AD the employee had with the group. Spouses may take the AD benefit even if the employee does not.
This is an accidental death benefit only (no dismemberment benefits). The death must occur within 365 days of the covered accident. Exclusions are listed in the group plan booklet. The benefit usually ends at age 70.
Disability income protection will not be included.

Please remember to check the spreadsheet for term ages, as the AD coverage typically terminates at age 70 which is way before their TL plan terminates.
