How to handle power of attorney calls

Caller must identify his/her NAME, MEMBER’S NAME, MEMBER’S SSN or ID NUMBER*, and MEMBER’S DOB. 

 POA document must be on file and indicate authorization for insurance purposes.

 New POA documents must be reviewed by Michael Peluso at Aetna. Upon receipt, we should email the POA document to him at pelusom@aetna.com. We must wait for his approval of the document before we release the information to the POA. When we receive approval (usually within one day), we should send the approval to imaging, make a note on the InsPro record, and contact the POA to assist him/her with any questions or concerns.

If POA has been approved, you may …

°          Release all information pertaining to the member’s file.

°          Mail any requested information.

°          Make address changes.
