When a newborn child is not added to the plan, but a claim arrives for that child and the date of service is within 31 days of birth (longer in certain states – see cert language), we will enroll the newborn child ourselves so that coverage for the newborn is honored during the 31-day period.

When no formal request for enrollment is received, the coverage for the newborn will terminate on the 31^st day (longer in some states – see cert language).

To have the child added permanently the member will need to complete an application to have the newborn added to the current policy. 

The member should leave a note on the policy stating the member ID number (P000XXXX). 

The effective date of the new born will be the first of the following month from the signed date on the application.
